Death: The last Enemy Christ Defeated

But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till, he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, (3754) all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under, him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under, him, that God may be all in all.

(1 Corinthians 15:23-28|KJV-

Dear beloved in Christ, we have seen how Christ triumph over the power of sin and princes of this age on the cross and how He died so as to destroy him that has power over death.

We also remember the promise of God in Psalms 16 regarding Christ;

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

(Psalms 16:10|KJV-

Jesus Christ went to the dead to defeat him that has power over death so that nothing can hinder His elect both here on earth and in the grave. You can see that our redemption was a full and complete package: He took away our sins; disarmed principalities and powers for our sake, seal and preserved us with His Spirit waiting for His return; and for in case anyone of us die while we await His arrival, He died to destroy the power of death and grave, so that nothing can hold back His saints.

For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep, in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

(1 Corinthians 15:16-20|KJV-

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is hope of our own resurrection. If in this life our hope is only in Christ; then we are of all men most miserable! But praise be to Jesus because our hope is also now in His resurrection: this is the sum total of our faith; that we believe in Jesus Christ and in the resurrection of the dead because if the dead will not rise on the day of resurrection then our faith in Christ is in vain, His death on the cross will be in vain, the gospel we preach will also be in vain and our sin is not forgiven. But thanks be to God for Christ has become the first born among the dead and as our elder brother, we all His younger brothers and sisters will pass through the same process at His coming.

Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? And why stand we in jeopardy, every hour? I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.,

(1 Corinthians 15:29-31|KJV-

It is in demonstration of this faith that we are baptized; that is why baptism is by immersion because we must first die to sin and be buried with Christ; Apostle Paul noted that baptism of this nature is for the dead because you can’t be alive in your sin and be buried in baptism, for baptism is for those who are already dead in sin; for as CHRIST first died to died to destroy Sin, He was then buried to destroy death; He rose from the dead to prove that the last enemy has been defeated and therefore given us hope of resurrection.

It is for this course that we risk our life daily for the sake of Christ because we know that even if we die, He will raise us up on the last day. Christ knew that we all will not be alive at His second coming that was why He died to destroy death so that even if we are dead while waiting, the grave won’t hold us back when He shall return.
