Mother’s Sunday: Christian Concern for Families Worldwide
It is by the special grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God that we are opportune to witness another mothering Sunday in this year of our Lord 2021. I wish to still remind you that as far as the earth remains, seed times and harvest shall not cease by the power of the Holy Spirit.
You will believe with me that mother’s are very essential to the family and society at large but in this brief studies today we are going to look into the scriptures to understand how the role of mothers affect christian families. Below is our text:
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.(John 19:25-27|KJV-
As a mother, you are not just a mother to your family alone, you are also mother to everyone that comes your way. Jesus Christ was the one that propounded this theory while on the cross; although He was dying on the cross and Mary was weeping, Mary was a caring Mother following Jesus Christ up and down up till the foot of the cross, but when Jesus beheld her weeping, He made her recognize that She is not just her mother but also mother to John the beloved; He also turned to John and made him to understand that despite the fact that he also has mother at home, that Mary too is his mother.
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.(Genesis 3:20|KJV-
You can see that the first Adam recognize his wife as the mother of all living; this too was what Jesus Christ (the second Adam) displayed further on the cross.
Mother’s are unique, committed to their care and love are families all over the earth; Christ made us to understand that they are not just mother’s to their families alone but to christian people everywhere, children are gift from God which He brings into the earth through the mother’s and as a mother, God expects you to watch over these children.
Father and mother alone does not make up a family, a family is complete with children and as a woman, what makes you a mother is not just the marriage but for the fact that you have children or even a child. So it is the desire of God that mother’s should behold their children; as a mother, don’t be too busy to know the whereabout of your child; Mary kept on following her son upto the hour of His death, she did not say after all Jesus is now a grown up and can fend for himself, we saw in the book of Luke 2, how the infant Jesus became missing on their way from Jerusalem they spent three days searching for Him, this is what family is all about.
As a mother, God is expecting you to watch over your family, your children and your husband are all under your care, be mindful of they whereabout, instruct them in the way of the Lord, don’t just assume they are fine by virtue of their age, even if they are married, they are still your children, so always look out for them in prayers, encouragement and in charity.
We are living in a world where it’s all man for himself and God for all; as a Christian mother, God’s responsibilities for you still remains beholding thy son, so whether they be your biological children or not, God expects you to behold them as yours, don’t be an instrument of strive and enmity, don’t be reckon with anything evil but in all things just as Apostle Paul admonished in 1Tim. 2:15, continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety so that when the good Shepard share appear, you will receive your full reward.
Eternal God, the maker of heavens and Earth, we thank you for the gift of mothers, we pray for mother’s everywhere that Your grace will be upon them, we ask that you fill them with everything good to watch over those committed to their care and by your mercy bring them into Your everlasting Kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
