Christmas: A Departure from the Faith once delivered to the Saints
Dearly beloved in Christ, I write to you to remind you of the common Faith we share in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; for I put myself under the wrath of God if I deny you this unchanging truth which was once delivered to the Saints;
There is no justification from scriptures neither is there any from the Apostles doctrines or the commands of old that sanction the celebration of Jesus Christ birthday, it is truth that CHRIST was a perfect God and perfect man but that does not reduce Him to a mere man whose days on earth is to be numbered.
But are we actually denying the fact that God once took on flesh and was born into this world like a man? No! It is very clear from scriptures that God once walked the face of the earth for the purpose of our redemption; this fact we are not denying but to say that 25th December is the actual birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ will be misleading and heretic and plain falsehood manufactured from the pit of hell and sold to the church but thank God our eyes of understanding He has open up at last.
Going by the scriptures, and Jewish history, the account of Matthew and Luke gave us a key to understand the period Christ was born; although no date was named; even the renowned Jewish historian Joshepus no where in his writing attribute a date to the birth of Christ but the account of Luke provides a clear detail of events that surrending the birth of Christ; it will take only those who have respect for the word of God to accept this simple truth am about to share with you and I pray that God will open your eyes of understanding to this truth.
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.(Luke 1:5|KJV-
And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,(Luke 1:24-26|KJV
Please note the particular time Zacharias the Priest received the prophecy regarding the birth of John the Baptist, it was at the course of Abijah. I want you to equally note that it was 6 months into Elizabeth pregnancy that the Angel visited Mary as regarding the birth of Jesus Christ (vs 31). So you can see that John the Baptist is just 6 months older than Jesus Christ.
Points to Note:
» Zacharias, a priest, performed his duties during the course of Abijah.
» After he returned home from Jerusalem, Elizabeth conceived.
» Mary conceived in the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy.
» John was born approximately six months before Jesus.
What is the Course of Abijah?
This is actually a particular season in the year, which is part of the 24 courses in the Jewish calendar wherein priest takes turn to go into the temple to perform sacrifices. The courses are well listed and explained in 1Chronicles 25, in verse 10 the course of Abijah fall in the 8th month, and this was the particular time Zacharias turn was to perform in the temple.
So count from the 8th month (August) when Gabriel brought message to Zacharias regarding the birth of John to the 6th month when Gabriel visited Mary regarding the birth of Christ, you will discover that the 6th month of Elizabeth pregnancy is around December/January and it was at this same period that Mary too conceived (Luke 1:26-38). So counting the 9 months gestation period, it is very clear that CHRIST was born around October/November. In another way round, Christ died at the age of 33 and half years, around the month of April, so count 6months forward from April, you will discover that His next birthday falls within October/November.
Reference to Shepards
Another reference or key from the scriptures that made it clear that CHRIST was not born on the 25th December was the role Shepards played during His birth; Jesus’ birth could not have occurred during the cold-weather months of winter. Sheep were normally brought into centrally located pens or corrals as the weather turned colder and the rainy season began, especially at night. If this were not significant, it begs the question, “Why would Luke have mentioned it in such detail if not to convey a time reference?” Take note of the comment of Adams Clark;
It was a custom among the Jews to send out their sheep to the deserts [wilderness], about the passover [sic], and bring them home at the commencement of the first rain: during the time they were out, the shepherds watched them night and day. As the passover [sic] occurred in the spring, and the first rain began early in the month of Marchesvan, which answers to part of our October and November, we find that the sheep were kept out in the open country during the whole of the summer. And as these shepherds had not yet brought home their flocks, it is a presumptive argument that October had not yet commenced, and that, consequently, our Lord was not born on the 25th of December, when no flocks were out in the fields; nor could He have been born later than September, as the flocks were still in the fields by night. On this very ground the nativity in December should be given up. The feeding of the flocks by night in the fields is a chronological fact, which casts considerable light on this disputed point.(Clarke’s Commentary, vol. V, p. 370)
How then comes 25th December?
25th December is a Roman feast day for the rebirth of their sun gods and following the conversion of Emperor Constantine to Christianity around AD 325, he made Christianity the religion of the state and imported the idol worship of Roman paganism and mix it with Christianity. So it was that pagan celebration that was polished and called Christmas. The early church never celebrated Christmas all these began while men slept (Apostles died) it was indeed the handwork of the enemy to plant another seed among the good ones the Master sowed, but the foundation of our God stands sure… Christ before hand told us of all these events in the parables in Matthew 13.
Finally, we speak this truth among them that are wise but if this Gospel be hid, it is only hidden to those who are lost, those who the god of this world has blinded their eyes so as not to see the truth. This is just a holiday season, spend time with families and loved ones, preach the gospel, show love but don’t let anyone deceive you into believing that CHRIST was born this day; we once believed that before but now we are been renewed from Faith to Faith, from revelation to revelation. God bless you. Happy holiday celebration and prosperous New year ahead.
