Salvation by Presumption: God’s Respect for Disobedience
On Monday by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ we began to discuss the very mystery of presumptuous salvation and the danger therein; we equally saw the benchmark of those whom God will accept as those who truly conform to the image of Jesus Christ and we saw that those who truly received Him are those who are born again according to His will; what is that will?
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.(Romans 8:29|KJV-
The will of God, above all for us is to be like Him in word and deed, we saw that the reason why He will reject many is because He did not know them, despite they work and did miracles in His name but since they did not resemble Him, there is no way He can accept them. Today we want to study the life of Moses as a man who walk with God but missed the promise land at last.
Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.(Numbers 20:1-5|KJV-
If you observe from the people’s complain, you will notice that they tied their salvation from Egypt to the works of Moses and Aaron; though they regard the power of God but thought that Moses and Aaron manipulated them into the journey and now to prove their point, God has abandoned them in the wilderness and they are dying. This still apply to many Christians today. If you become born again because your pastor convince you to do so, he will remain your god to furnish you with faith required to serve God, that is why many Christian cannot lift a finger until they hear from their spiritual mentor, mentors are good but when they become medium through which God speak to you, then your salvation is questionable.
And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.(Numbers 20:6-8|KJV-
Moses and Aaron went before God to seek for solution but the instructions that will bring that solution was given and to be executed by Moses. God’s instruction is very clear, He told Moses to (1) take his rod, (2) gather the people together with Aaron thy brother, (3) then speak to the rock and water will come out for them to drink. Three sets of instructions, so let’s see how Moses treated these instructions;
And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.(Numbers 20:9-11|KJV-
Look at what Moses did; (1) Moses took his rod, (2) gathered the people together with Aaron, (3) Moses address the people, (4) Moses smote the rock twice and water came out. Did Moses follow God’s instructions? NO! Did Water came out? YES! Ok let’s move further and see God’s reactions;
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.(Numbers 20:12|KJV-
First of all, who sent Moses to address the people? Secondly, who instructed him to smote the rock? You see where many of us think we can help God, God was the one who provided the remedy but Moses presented it as his own way of helping the people out because he was the one they meet at the beginning so he is the one to bring solution. You see the danger of not knowing God for yourself, many people will mislead you, although you might be seeing results but that’s not a prove that God is pleased.
The fact that water came out of the rock does not mean that God did not notice the disobedience of Moses; the fact that the people drank from it does not mean that God is pleased. You can be living in secret and open sin and still be seeing result, you can be a woman Pastor and people will be falling under anointing,you can steal from government and pay your tithes and God will bless you; but do not be deceived, every disobedience to the word of God will certainly cause you eternity. Nothing in this life can substitute obedience to God’s word, your giving life cannot replace that, your gifts cannot replace it, nothing! I mean nothing can take the place of obedience in the life of a Christian.
That God is at peace with you even in your rebellion against His word is not a prove that He don’t know what He is doing. That He attends to your every need despite your shortcomings is not a prove that all is well. The loving kindness of our God is new every morning but only endures as long as life remains on earth. Eternity is a place prepared for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Rom. 8:28).
Don’t be deceived by the results you are seeing around you, check yourself in that mirror (word of God) and be sure you are confirming to His word; no man can help God to bring His purposes to reality, do what the Bible said you should do, if the Bible forbid a woman as pastor, no matter the angel you saw, don’t believe otherwise. If the Bible says you should not speak in tongues in church when no one is to interpret it, please let no man tell you otherwise. The Bible forbid us from bowing down and praying before images so no matter the result you see while doing so, it will never make it right before God. The Bible forbid same sex marriage and relationship, so don’t let globalization fool you into believing that God’s standard for marriage can be shortchanged. We live in a generation where many has gone ahead of God and has invented alot of things that are against the word of God but that does not render the word of God ineffective.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.(Matthew 7:21-23|KJV-
This is one of the most devastating news any believer can hear, that when you think you have run the race and finish it and waiting for the prize of eternal life and Jesus Christ appeared and said this to you, seriously nobody should pray to witness this, do all you can to live by the word of God, there is no substitution for it.
Faithful God, we have heard from the hearing of the ears and our eyes have seen your goodness and loving kindness. We know of a truth that your plan for us is that of good and to bring us into your everlasting kingdom, help us most Holy God to live our lives in accordance to this divine plan, help us to give ears to this eternal law of liberty, save us from half obedience, deliver us from the idol of self, may we decrease for the people to see you as the doer of all things. We commend our lives into your hands and it’s our prayers that we will not be a cast away on the last day through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
