Salvation by Presumption: As many that Receive Him

Throughout last week, we saw through the scriptures how God, by foreknowledge has ordained us unto eternal life from the foundation of the world. He choose us right from our mothers womb and ordained us to conform to the image of His dear Son Jesus Christ.

The totality of why Christ came to earth is to restore the image of God and the relationship that existed between God and man that was lost in the garden. Christianity is a call to conformity to the person of Jesus Christ because it in Him that the image of the God- Head dwell bodily (Col. 2:9). We also saw that, no man can take upon himself the image of Jesus Christ until the Father draws such man; there is no way you can look like Jesus Christ simple by answering alter call, there is no way you can look like Jesus Christ by going to church, there is no way you can look like Jesus Christ by performing miracles signs and wonders. To look like Jesus Christ is a deeper mystery that until the Father Himself draws you, you will keep presuming that you have His image, so I welcome you to today’s Bible study in the name of Jesus Christ.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

(John 1:12|KJV-

From the above verse, there are two sets of people Jesus gave power; first are those who received Him, second are those who believe in His name.

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

(John 1:13|KJV-

The manner through which these two set of persons received this power are as follows; (1) Born again by blood (2) born again by will of the flesh (3) Born again by will of man (4) born again by the will of God. All of them are Born again with power; but let us explain how they got born again.

1. Born again by blood: these set of people are those who said they are born again because they were born into Christian family; I mean, related to the blood of their parents who were Christians before they were born and because of that, they were given Christian name and raised in the church and by so doing, he believed the name of Jesus Christ and became born again, these ones are born again by blood. A good example of such people are the seven sons of Sceva (Acts 19:11-20).

2. Born again by the will of the flesh: these are those who were led into the church out of frustration, they have tried all manner of business and it’s not working for them and they heard and saw what the name of Jesus Christ can do, and how that name has become center of attraction, they too became born again and believe in that name. A good example of such people is Simon the sorcerer (Acts 8:9-25) who was born again, he was even baptized but his main intention was to purchase the anointing with money.

3. Born again by the will of man: these set of people are the ones their pastor convince to come out for alter call; emotion was their primary drive, the pastor was the one who engineered their own salvation through recitation of Prayers upon which he (the pastor) declared them born again. A good example of these ones is Lot’s wife (Gen. 19)

4. Born again by the will of God: these are the ones whom He (God) called (Rom. 8:28) and they are the ones who received Him.

So presumptuously, these other three set of people think they are saved, but sorry, He is not referring to those born again by blood, nor those born again by the will of the flesh, nor those born again by the will of man; although they all can bear “sons of God” but do not be deceived for God knows those that are His own for the true sons of God are those born again by the will of God and they are the ones that have His Spirit (Rom. 8:14)

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

(1 Peter 1:23|KJV-

For this is what it means to be born again. Every other means you got your born again outside the will of God is a corruptable means of being born again. Being born again by the will of God is to be born of that incorruptible seed which is the word of God, and at any point in your Christian journey you cannot cope in obedience to the word of God, then it’s clear of which seed you were born again.

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

(James 1:22-25|KJV-

Just as you can’t leave your house everyday without looking at yourself in the mirror, so also you can’t successful run this eternal race with out looking at yourself and lifestyle through the word of God. The word of God is our mirror to see our level of resemblance with Jesus, that is where we see how far we are really confirming to His image, that is what shape us to look like Jesus Christ. So you cannot say you are born again by the will of God when you are not looking like God in your character and lifestyle.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

(Matthew 7:21-23|KJV-

The set of persons Jesus referred to in the above scripture are not unbelievers outside the church, they are those three set of people who also received power by believing in His name, but their fail to understand that it takes more than power and answered prayers to be known by God. For Him to identify you, you must look like Him in power and in righteousness.

One of the most common mistake many believers make is to think that they are save simply because they Prayers are being answered, or because they can do miracles or because God is silent at their secret sin life but they fail to remember that it’s whom He love that He chastise, and that He is the one that causes rain to fall on both the righteous and the unrighteous. But make no mistake, you must look like Him(Jesus) for Him to recognize you on the last day.

PRAYERS

Faithful and eternal God, thank you for the grace you have given us to hear from you this day, may we not hear and forget to put it into practice. Lord, there are still part of our lives that is yet to conform to your word, by flesh can no man prevail, please increase our faith to believe your word and inspire our understanding to know you more and more so that on the last day, we will not be a caste away. Make us a shining light to others around us, so that through our word and deed, they might see and glorify our Father who is in Heaven. There are many who belong to this fold that are yet to hear your voice, Lord draw them closer, and open their eyes to know you and to begin to strive to look like You through the merit of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
