THE FEAST DAY OF ST THOMAS THE APOSTLE: (JULY 3)
Thomas was one of Jesus Christ disciples who was outstanding for doubting the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ until words and sight brought conviction to him.
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace, be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen,, and yet have believed.
Just as St. Thomas insisted on seeing and touching Christ before he believes, we too can touch and feel Him through Faith in the word of God when we hear it and put it into practice. It is through Faith that we feel the reality of God, although Thomas saw and touched Him physically, but for ours is through faith in His word; by faith we can replicate and bring God to physically manifestations in our lives, families and nation’s.
On this Feast day, we thank God for using Apostle Thomas to teach us how important faith is in this kingdom race, through his doubt and inquisitiveness, You have taught us that it is blessed to believe and trust in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
The truth is that Christ has died, Christ has risen and Christ will come again. Another truth is that non of us as it stand today was an eyewitness of His death and resurrection but through faith in the word of God, we believe it and also believe that He will one day come again.
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure, in him.(Hebrews 10:38|KJV-
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.(Hebrews 11:1-3|KJV
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.(Hebrews 11:6|KJV-
The life wire of Christianity is Faith. Faith is so important that without it, no one can please God; it is so because before you can claim to be a follower of Christ, you must first settle with conviction that God exist. The existence of God is first among equals and second to none. Faith is the lifestyle we inherited from the Apostles and fathers of Faith and we are going to leave it behind for the generations after us. It is what makes Christianity outstanding from other religions. Faith is what makes Christianity a living religion; for through faith, we can put God in action and see Him do great things around us and transform conditions. (Ps. 126)
The patriarch of old through faith obtained good report, though not all the promises made to them during their life time came to pass (Heb. 11:39-40) yet they believed and trusted God till their death. Our God is a faithful God, He has never said a thing and did not bring it to pass, He promised Abraham that He will make him father of many nation’s, Abraham was not alive to see it all come through but God has kept to His word as the seed of Abraham keep on spreading around the globe today. By faith the red sea parted and the people passed through it on dry land, by faith the wall of Jericho fell, by faith, women received their children raised back to life, by faith others were tortured to death so that they will obtain a better resurrection… (Heb. 11)
I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.(Job 42:5|KJV-
Friends, we too can obtain good report just like these men of old, just like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; who through faith entered the lions den and fiery furnace yet unhurt. God expect us in our generation to stand firm in Him and shun every appearances of evil and to remain bold to the truth.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.(Romans 10:17|KJV-
Faith is your unwavering trust and confidence that God is who you read and heard Him to be in accordance with the scriptures. Faith is born by hearing the word of God. The Bible is the Word of God, it contains everything regarding God and how we are to live our Christian Life and make it at last to heaven. We were not there when the events written therein took place but we can replicate them or receive from them through faith by believing them to be truth and practicing them and applying it in our circumstances. So I will encourage you hear more of God’s word either by listening to a preacher or by reading it yourself to you hearing, don’t rely so much on what people say or what is going on around the world today, let the word of God be the standard on which you live your life and practice your Christianity.
Finally, faith without work is dead. You cannot claim to have faith and fail to put your faith into practice. Faith plus work (Practice) is equal to result. God promised Abraham to make him Father of many nation’s, Abraham did not heard that and went back to his father’s hut and sleep, rather he obeyed God and moved at His every bid and call. The word of God you heard is a motivation (Faith) to Act. Follow every instructions to the last and obey God no matter the cost and the result will justify the means.
Historical account has it that St. Thomas preached outside Roman Empire to the present day India where he was martyred on 3 July in AD 72.
