The Feast Day of St. Peter the Apostle(29, June)

Simon also called Peter was one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ in whose care Christ committed His entire flock and on whose knowledge and revelation through the Father, He established His Church on earth.

After breakfast Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these others?” “Yes,” Peter replied, “you know I am your friend.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. Jesus repeated the question: “Simon, son of John, do you really love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I am your friend.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. Once more he asked him, “Simon, son of John, are you even my friend?” Peter was grieved at the way Jesus asked the question this third time. “Lord, you know my heart; you know I am,” he said. Jesus said, “Then feed my little sheep.

St. Peter’s response to Christ question was made manifest first on the Penticost day where he through the boldness of the Holy Spirit converted three thousand souls and set them on fire through baptism to become light through which the basis of our Christian faith was formed; (Acts 2:41-42)

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say (3303) that thou art John the Baptist:, (1161) some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also, unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever, thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever, thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

(Matthew 16:13-19|KJV

The right religion is this; the Church of Christ was not built on Peter as a person but on the rock which is the unwavering truth of Christ identity made known to Peter by God Almighty. The church of Christ is built on the solid Rock which is Christ the son of the living God. He is the Chief cornerstone of the Church and without Him, no one can see the Father and anyone who build on Him has the assurance of standing the storm and troubles of this life.

The only personal investment Christ made on St. Peter and to an extent the entire body of Christ is giving him the keys of the kingdom of heaven. This keys are the manifestation of the Holy Spirit upon believers. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God communicate to us his desires which we are to enforce on earth and through the same Spirit, we communicate to God our desires on earth which heaven takes records and bring into effect.

The keys of the kingdom St. Peter received for us is not to bind and lose witches and our enemies but to comprehend and implement God’s purposes on earth as it is in heaven.

St. Peter through His Apostolic ministry was faced with alot of Challenges which landed him in prison but through the prayers of the breathen, he was set free by the Angle of the Lord (Acts 12). He was martyred between AD 64 and 68 by emperor Nero.

Don’t just bear the name Peter or take the title “Christian”; go beyond the ordinary head knowledge and what you’ve heard to know and have a personal revelation of Jesus Christ, on this Feast day, let us join christian people everywhere to pray for all Archbishops, Bishops, Reverends, pastors, and all whom the Lord has appointed overseer over His church, that just like St. Peter, they will watch and care for the flock committed to their care and through patience and hope, overcome all trials and antics of the enemies and lead the people to the feet of Christ.

Almighty God and our Father, who called Apostle Peter to be the Chief Shepard of the Church and through him, set us an example to follow in our Christian faith; grant your Church that same faith and zeal to proclaim Your unchanging word in this changing world, help us to live in peace and unity with one another, may our fellowship with the Holy Spirit always inspire us to know you more and more till that perfect day of our revealing through Jesus Christ our soon coming King. Amen
