Ostentatious Religiosity: The spirit of Comparison

For we dare not make ourselves of the number,, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themseves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.,

(2 Corinthians 10:12|KJV

One of the ways the scriptures defined lack of wisdom among the body of Christ is by drawing comparison among itself. This don’t just happen, there is a spirit which is certainly not of God that inspires people to begin to compare themselves with others, let us look at the manifestation of that spirit;

Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.

(2 Corinthians 10:7|KJV-

This spirit usually start by opening our eyes to outward appearance, then goes on to inspire our mind to begin to think of ourselves better than others. When you look at the next person sitting close to you in worship place and discover that he or she can’t pray in the Holy Ghost and for that reason you consider him or her a baby or lazy Christian and disdain her in your heart or words; St. Paul in the above scripture is saying that you who consider yourself Christ (Born again) even so, that your neighbor too is Christ (Born again). I taught in the last two series that you don’t dictate people spiritual status by merely physical looking at them but by allowing the Spirit of God who searches all things to reveal them.

There are people who over time has been instructed by the Spirit of God to remain on a particular course but by seeing friends and colleagues advancing to the next level, them too were either mocked or moved by the spirit to advance. The truth is that we are all created by God but with different destines and timing for life, it is total distrust on your creator to use someone else advancement rate to measure yours. Everybody cannot be president at the same time and at the same level, so there is no need fighting and struggling to be a president upon seeing your junior in secondary school being addressed as his excellency.

Many today backed out of business that would have opened door for them in 10 years to come and began to pursue other things simply because a friend who was lucky to win a raffle draw took them out on a dinner and upon consideration of circumstances they think it’s profitable to play bet and gamble to hit it big faster. What of those who went and open churches and ministry simply because they want to prove that the senior pastor is not the only one that knows how to do miracles. Think of that your friend who used to be humble together with you in the place of seeking the face of God in prayers every morning or evening but is no where to be found simply because he has seen people who never prayed yet they daily bread were mysteriously provided so she has left to discover the magic that works for them. What of those who wish they were never born in their families or country? I used to be in this category before the Lord through His Spirit inspires my understanding and purpose.

Comparison makes one to miss his opportunity of rising in life. Nobody came to this earth to become a waste or a slave, the Lord that created you and placed you where you found yourself today is not mistaken, there is a purpose for you being in the village serving and others being in the township; God did not hate you, you did not offend anyone infact, nobody in your village is manipulating your destiny because your destiny is with God; Hiden in Christ Jesus and He is sitting high above principalities and power. At every stage you find yourself in life, the Lord demand that you are open hearted, sincere and deligent in duty. Whatever your hand find doing please do it well. The secret of our rising is hidden in contentment, obedience and steadfastness; please don’t back out; find joy and contentment in all you do and watch people celebrate you from that angle.

To pastors and motivational speakers; sometimes the way we admonish these brethren is what makes them go into all sort of comparison. There is nothing like “change your position to be positioned” what if the position he was earlier is one tied to his uplifting? What if he was never in any position before? People don’t get positioned by simply opening new branches all over the nation’s, it can be one branch that you operate but if you manage it very well, I promise you, people all over the nations will come looking for you.

Finally, how can we overcome the spirit of Comparison?

It is true that I am an ordinary, weak human being, but I don’t use human plans and methods to win my battles. I use God’s mighty weapons, not those made by men, to knock down the devil’s strongholds. These weapons can break down every proud argument against God and every wall that can be built to keep men from finding him. With these weapons I can capture rebels and bring them back to God and change them into men whose hearts’ desire is obedience to Christ.

(2 Corinthians 10:3-5|LIVING-

for those who are older are said to be wiser; but it is not mere age that makes men wise. Rather, it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty that makes him intelligent.

(Job 32:7-8|LIVING-

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

(Jeremiah 29:11|LIVING-

Then Satan tempted him to get food by changing stones into loaves of bread. “It will prove you are the Son of God,” he said. But Jesus told him, “No! For the Scriptures tell us that bread won’t feed men’s souls: obedience to every word of God is what we need.”

(Matthew 4:3-4|LIVING-

From the light of the above scriptures, it is not by age or by what the mouth can say, we become successful by looking at the master plan of God concerning our lives as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. The battle of comparison must be won in your heart today; with the word of God and His promises concerning your life in your heart, you can cast down every imagination that rise against the thought and plan of God for your life; speak the word of Life and truth to yourself until everything concerning you align in obedience to the will of the Father.

Prayers- Most holy and immortal God we are overwhelmed with all that you are, we thank you for opening the eyes of our understanding this day regarding your plans for our existence here on earth. By the power of the Holy Ghost, I curse every spirit of Comparison among the people of God. I speak peace and blessings upon your children this day in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord bless the works of our hands, cause us not to lean in our own understanding but in all things let your Spirit keep inspiring us. Help us to renounce every ego of the flesh and submit ourselves under your leadership, for your leadership is perfect; where you lead we will go and where you call we will answer. Thank you most faithful redeemer for you alone is the Shepherd of our soul, with you beside us we have nothing to lack or worry about in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
